Directory: Handcrafted and curated pages

Why directories again?

We live in strange digital times where the internet is slowly eating itself (Dead Internet Theory), harvesting data from everywhere without explicit permission is claimed to be probably legal (?!) if used for AI by large corporations (remember the "downloading is stealing" campaign used to make teenagers pay millions in estimated damages for downloading their favorite song?) while people try to poison the data as self-defense (Data Poisoning) and digital services seem to be in a downward spiral milking users for every Euro, Dollar and valuable currency they can still get out of them (Enshitification)...

Search engines seem to be giving users less and less what they search for and more what maintainers and their business partners (think ads) think they should see for buying more stuff. The interesting pages users could discover are merely a backdrop and the added value of using these search engines is slowly diminished. Commercial search engines like kagi and curated directories like curlie are an attempt to co-exist and gain some agency in this situation.
